We Got this | March

We Got This is a grassroots community initiative that empowers and employs young black males to become active in the cleanup of their own community while receiving exposure to notable positive male role models and their messages.

Meet We Got This

In an effort to fight against negative stereotypes surrounding his community, Andre Lee Ellis started We Got This, a community garden providing mentorship and gardening skills to Black boys ages 12-17 on the corner of North 9th and West Ring streets.

We Got This has grown into a program with over 60 weekly participants, who gather on Saturdays from mid-May to August each summer. Participants learn about neighborhood responsibility through weekly clean up efforts and receive a $20 stipend each week. Learn more about We Got This by watching this video from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Join We Got This and Running Rebels at their hot chocolate event on March 13th at 600 S. Water Street at 5:00 PM as Light the Hoan programs the bridge lights red, green and black to honor the nonprofit.
